On February 19 a large gathering of DAC Car Club members were given an exclusive tour of the 45,000 SEMA Garage Detroit (Plymouth) high-tech testing facility.
It was a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of cutting-edge automotive technologies and services! The famed Speciality Equipment Market Association is best known for its after-market automotive show in Las Vegas that draws members and fans of high-tech auto from around the world.
SEMA Garage Detroit General Manager Ben Kaminsky personally greeted Car Club members and gave a presentation on why SEMA chose to invest millions in this high-tech facility in Detroit that is substantially larger than its California test facility.
Ben helped Car Club members understand the extreme complexity of testing vehicles and the impact of having a windshield replaced that has sensors – it’s a very serious and precise undertaking! Ben led members through a presentation on the latest in product development, emissions testing, ADAS research, and much more. Ben was joined by famed GM designer Tom Peters (Designer of the C8 Corvette), who played a key role in designing the SEMA Garage Detroit.
- Rapid Prototyping: the process of turning ideas into tangible prototypes in record time.
- 3D Scanning: Learn how precision 3D scanning ensures accuracy and performance in every part.
- Emissions Compliance Testing: We saw firsthand how we ensure vehicles meet the highest environmental standards.
- ADAS Technology Research Center: Explored the cutting-edge advancements in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
Special thanks to Ben, Tom and our own Board Member Lauren Mendelson, who Chaired the event and arranged for a delicious luncheon during the presentation. Kudos to Lauren for introducing the DAC Car Club to a world-class, high-tech testing facility in our own backyard. A great day!
