November 8, 2020 – The first DAC Grand Prix is in the books. November 8, 2020 will go down as a day of infamy. A socially-distanced platoon of 48 drivers from the DAC Car Club challenged each other in a “no holds barred” battle to be the best on an exciting indoor race track at Kart 2 Kart in Sterling Heights.
This sold-out event offered an opportunity to exercise your competitive spirit at over 40 mph in an very twisty race course. Safety is the number 1 priority at Kart2Kart. Guard rails attached to tires soften the impact an keep you on the track. Flagmen stationed around the track stop the action if a spinout occurs. Ultraviolet lights remove the covid 19 possibilities in the helmets. The large 58000 sf facility offered social distancing along with sanitizer and all the now-expected procedures in place made it an afternoon to enjoy.
For those seeking other experiences on site, our package included an Axe Room (4 Axe Lanes) Café, Lobby, Meeting Room, Pool Table & Foosball. The food was simple: Pizza, Breadsticks & salad
Photography was graciously provided by David along with wife and CC board member Lauren Mendelson.
As for the racing format: 4 heats per race (12 drives per heat). The top 12 fastest drivers ( fastest laps) were then entered into a Feature Race. This race had a very tight-knit group of times (so VERY competitive driving by all).
In the end, the winners:
First:
David Woessner
Second:
Mark McCourt
Third:
Logan Watch
Fractions of a second between them. It was an exciting finish!
Podium photos taken and congratulations by the crowd.
All in all, we had a great time, were physically exhausted, and respectfully kept our distances while still building camaraderie.
Until next time……
